Miniature Screws (M2 and Smaller)

Even in large machine tools, the use of miniature screws of size M2 and smaller has been increasing, particularly for mounting sensors, small cameras, and similar devices.

What Types of “#0 Screws” Are Available?

In Japan, miniature screws such as M1, M1.4, M1.6, and M1.7 are available as standard stock items.
These screws are also commonly referred to as camera screws.

Why Are They Called “Camera Screws”?

Historically, there were no standardized screw specifications for sizes M2 and below.
As a result, organizations within the Japanese camera industry established their own proprietary standards.
These standards eventually became the de facto standard for miniature screws in Japan.

Available Head Types

For cross-recessed machine screws and tapping screws, the following two head types are available from stock:

  • #0 Type 1
  • #0 Type 3

In addition, DIN 912 hex socket head cap screws are available starting from size M1.4.

Availability and Supply

Although any of these screws can be manufactured for mass production, when immediate delivery from stock is required, Japan offers the widest selection and largest inventory in the world.

Summary

For screws of size M2 and smaller, relying on Japanese stock suppliers is highly convenient and practical.
